The Division of Neurosurgery at SBH Health System offers a non-accredited 12-month clinical fellowship in Neurosurgery. This position is open to US and international neurosurgeons (post-residency fellowship), neurosurgery residents (enfolded fellowship), and other physicians (pre-residency fellowship) interested in building up their experience in clinical and operative neurosurgery.
To be eligible, a candidate must satisfy the following requirements:
The Division of Neurosurgery at SBH Health System is a busy clinical service with over 1,000 inpatient and outpatient consultations and over 250 surgical procedures every year. It offers state-of-the-art and cutting-edge neurosurgical services to a large underserved population in the South Bronx area of NY. The scope of clinical neurosurgical practice is extremely diverse, encompassing a wide array of neurosurgical subspecialties, ranging from simple to highly complex cranial, spinal, peripheral nerve, and neuroendovascular procedures. The division is also highly academic with regularly held, weekly educational conferences and a strong emphasis on clinical research and scholarly activity. Thus, although the fellow will not receive subspecialized training in a specific neurosurgical discipline, he/she will benefit from a unique clinical and academic general neurosurgical experience. By virtue of the same, the specific objectives will vary for each fellow, depending on his/her educational background and prior neurosurgical experience.

Evidence-based practice is key to my approach, where I rely on the latest research, my clinical expertise, and the individual values of each patient to make informed decisions."
Dr. Fathalla was born and raised in Egypt, graduating from medical school there in 2010. Subsequently, he immigrated to the US, where he held several positions as a certified first surgical assistant, then for 3 years as a neurosurgery house physician, prior to joining our program. This hands-on experience has helped Dr. Fathalla develop a strong foundation in clinical neurosurgery, while allowing him to refine his technical neurosurgical skills.
